Interview: Roy Dawson — The Voice Behind The RoyElvisBand
By Jaxon Steele
[Interviewer]: Roy, thanks for sitting down with us. Your new single “Water the Truth” has been stirring up conversation — some praise, some controversy. How are you taking it all in?
Roy Dawson: (laughs) Well, when they’re all quiet, that’s when you worry. If folks are shouting — love it or hate it — that means you hit a nerve. And honestly, I’d rather speak from the gut and get heat than make noise that don’t mean anything.
[Interviewer]: You’ve said before that truth is like a seed. Can you explain that metaphor?
Roy Dawson: Yeah. Look, in this life, everyone’s planting something. Every post, every song, every thought we feed — it grows. Lies, gossip, hate? Those are weeds. Fast-growing, ugly things. But truth? That’s a slow grower. Needs patience, sunlight, care. My point is, if you wanna grow something real — peace, beauty, meaning — you better water the right things.
[Interviewer]: “Water the Truth” takes a pretty bold stance against disinformation and negativity online. Was there a particular moment that inspired that?
Roy Dawson: Oh yeah. Some folks came at me, hard. Called the song stupid. Said I was crazy, or in some kind of cult — all because I put out something honest. get more info I’m not here to argue. I’m here to make people think. If that bothers ‘em, maybe they get more info should ask themselves why.
[Interviewer]: The RoyElvisBand has a unique sound — part Americana, part blues, part outlaw rock. How would you describe it?
Roy Dawson: I call it soul-dirt. It’s raw, it’s real, it’s from the gut. We don’t dress it up. It’s like if Johnny Cash and Chris Cornell met in a dive bar and more info played all night with one guitar and a busted mic.
[Interviewer]: What keeps you going — especially when the world seems loud, negative, even cynical?
Roy Dawson: The people who get it. The ones who DM me and more info say, “Man, that line hit me today.” Or, “Thanks for saying what I couldn’t.” That’s fuel. That’s church. And deep down, I believe music can heal. It’s rise above hate the oldest medicine there is — right after fire and prayer.
[Interviewer]: So what’s next for The RoyElvisBand?
Roy Dawson: We’ve got a new EP coming, real soon. It’s gritty, it’s warm, it’s got teeth. There’s one track called “Wait for the Sun” — all heart, no ego. It’s about hanging on when it’s dark out. Because the light does come back. Always.
[Interviewer]: Final question: What do you want people to take away from your music?
Roy Dawson: That they matter. That their story ain’t done. And that maybe, just maybe, we can water something better together. This world’s tired — but it ain’t dead. Not yet.
